Mary Ann Lewis

Born June 2, 1939, in Newton, NJ, a daughter of Dr. Dorsett Larue Spurgeon and Mary Dutcher Spurgeon. She was married June 25, 1960, in Newton, NJ to John Hardy Lewis, Jr.; who survives her. She was a 1957 graduate and class president of Abbot Academy (now Phillips Andover), and a 1961 graduate of Wellesley College. She worked in Advertising and Marketing in Philadelphia, PA until she received her call to become a chaplain and a lay pastor. She was a former chairwoman of The League of Women Voters, former President of the Penn Valley Civic Association, former Editor for the Main Line Times, founding board member of “A Better Chance,” in Ardmore, PA, and formerly served on the Vestry and was the Coordinator of Lay Pastoral Ministry at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wynnewood, PA. She and her husband were received into the Roman Catholic Church in January of 2009 and became members of St. Matthews Church in Conshohocken, PA. She loved leading bible studies, helping others, volunteering, taking family vacations to Colorado and Cape May, NJ, and most of all spending time with friends and family. Other survivors include: three sons, Peter Ripley Lewis (married to Jennifer Davis-Lewis), Hershey, PA, David Hardy Lewis, Camp Hill, PA, and Mark Bradford Lewis (married to Jennifer Whitener Lewis), Rockville, MD; three grandchildren, Kyle Dorsett Lewis, Tyler Ripley Lewis and Sofia Marie Lewis; a twin brother, Edward “Ned” Spurgeon, Sacramento, CA and a sister, Joan Brennan, Denver, CO; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren.
